Fried Rice is a great staple for nearly any meal. Not only can be it be simple to make, it requires few ingredients, and can also be modified to suit your specific tastes. Most, if not all of the ingredients are often found in most everyday households. If not, then they can definitely be found in the average grocery store.

Here is one of the simplest recipes you can use to create fried rice that resembles what you can order from restaurants!

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups enriched white rice
  • 4 cups of water
  • 2/3 cup chopped baby carrots
  • 1/2 frozen green peas
  • 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
  • 2 eggs
  • small amount of soy sauce (this varies depending on your preference)
  • Sesame oil (as with the soy sauce, the amount varies. This is also optional)

Directions:

  1. Heat the rice and water in a covered sauce pan until it boils. Then simmer for an additional 20 minutes.
  2. Boil the carrots in a small saucepan for 3-5 minutes.
  3. Next add the frozen peas to the saucepan with the carrots.
  4. Drain the water from the peas and carrots.
  5. Heat a wok (or griddle/large frying pan) on high.
  6. Pour the oil in and then add the carrots and peas. Cook for about 30 seconds.
  7. Quickly crack the eggs over the mixture and stir quickly so that the eggs scramble.
  8. Next mix in the cooked rice.
  9. Add in the soy sauce and sesame sauce.

Your fried rice is now ready to enjoy!

Tips, Tricks, and Customization Ideas

As with everything in cooking, there are many tricks that one learns as they cook new meals. Here are some tips and tricks that may help in perfecting your fried rice:

  • Some recommend piling the vegetables on one side and cracking the eggs and scrambling them on the other side of the pan. This makes it easier to scramble the eggs prior to mixing with the vegetables.
  • Some people like a strong soy sauce flavoring so you can experiment with adding more to see how you like it.
  • If you are not a fan of the flavor of this recipe consider using oyster sauce instead of soy sauce.
  • Instead of using water to cook the rice, one could use beef broth or chicken broth.
